Isla Mujeres EventsJANUARY• Jan 1st: Public holiday. • Day of the Constitution of the State of Quintana Roo. • Anniversary of the restoration of Quintana Roo as a State. FEBRUARY• Isla Mujeres Carnival. The carnival is held in February or March depending on the year. It is full of enthusiasm and passion and means a lot of partying, music and fun for the islanders. The most important part of Carnival is the parade, colorful representations with music, dance and colorful costumes. MARCH• Anniversary of the discovery of Isla Mujeres by Don Francisco Hernández de Córdova APRIL• Sol a Sol International Regatta (April-May). This sailboat regatta departs from St. Petersburg, Florida to Isla Mujeres. This event brings regional dances and a general air of festivity to Isla Mujeres. All benefits are for the Mexican Red Cross • Fiesta Del Cedral. Last weekend in April. An annual agricultural festival on Cozumel to celebrate the first Catholic mass in Mexico. Activities include a fair, children's rides and dancing. MAY• Cancun Jazz Festival: An annual event since 1991, Performances by international jazz musicians JUNE• International Day of the Mexican Navy. Foot races around the island JULY• The international Day of the environment on Isla Mujeres. Locals and visitors are invited to take part in beach cleaning. AUGUST• Anniversary of the foundation of Isla Mujeres and of the Cross of the Island sinking. SEPTEMBER• Anniversary of Mexican independence, “Fiestas Patrias”. Popular dance, military and civil parades, sports competitions, gastronomic exhibition, cultural and social activities. DECEMBER• 16-24 Dec. Las Posadas. Each night the faithful re-enact Joseph and Mary's search for posada (shelter) on their journey to Belen. For the less devout, it's an excuse for a party. Many hotels and restaurants hold their own posada festivities. • Celebration of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, patron saint of the island. Religious procession on the bay. • Party on the town’s main square. Taking place the last day of the year.
